Popular and powerful, the Lost Bird Found project has been brought forward and given an iso-spin to carry positive messages and spark conversations around mental health. Birds handcrafted by the community are being made to raise awareness of mental health.
Now in its seventh year, Lost Bird Found is the perfect iso-project for all ages. Get out your knitting needles, paint brushes and carving tools and join us in making birds that carry positive messages to our community.
In previous years, flocks of birds would be made then hidden in the community for people to find and keep, but this year organisers are asking participants to put them in their windows, share birds with a friend, colleague, neighbour or even someone in their own family.
Participants are also encouraged to post and share images of their birds on the Lost Bird Found social media pages and their own accounts to spark discussions and boost awareness about mental health.
The birds symbolise freedom from anxiety, depression and other mental illnesses. North Sydney Mayor Jilly Gibson said that each bird is a chance to start a conversation around mental health.
“Now, more than ever, we need to look after our own mental health and the mental health of others. We hope these birds can help break down barriers of discussing this taboo topic, especially during this time of less social interaction.
“Get involved, get creative – there are no limits on how they should look – what’s important is that we start chatting about mental health as a community.“
