Getting creative in the way you celebrate mum in isolation
Sunday 10 May 2020
That’s the day to remember
The popular choice to go with a gift is always flowers. Mums are always worth a bunch of flowers and a small gift on their special day aren’t they? There are many online florists ready to service your request with contactless delivery, but for those of us who have to watch our pennies, there’s nothing wrong with picking up a few bouquets; an array of colours of fresh roses shall we say, from Aldi or any other supermarket, where they’re around $6 a bunch. If your local florist is open, no doubt they’d welcome the business too; and you can leave it at mum’s door, with a card.
How about a subscription to Netflix? You can decide the value of the gift you’d like to bequeath, and give mum a 1-12 month subscription or more; lifetime even because she’s worth it, at under $10 a month fixed price with no extra costs or contracts. Unlimited movies can be screened on your phone, tablet, laptop and TV without paying more. When it comes to exhaustion of the amount you want to spend, simply cancel your account in two clicks with no cancellation fees.
To be honest, online buying has been the norm in our everyday lives for a while now, so it’s not difficult to find mum a gift. In fact, it’s not much of a challenge really is it? Still, mum would love the attention no doubt, and there’s still time to be organised to order online and have it delivered on time, if you act now.
Instagram – yes you can buy unique handmade jewellery, handbags, crowns and more from small businesses across the world
Red Balloon – for experiences
Bushgift Cards – if you have a mum who’d rather help support conservation work
Your favourite stores like Myer, David Jones, Target, Kmart, Big W have a mega amount of ideas and goods to buy online, or pick up some great clothes currently on special for mum, at TS and Evas Sunday and the likes. Or you could have special, exquisite meals delivered to her door, and enjoy dinner together online with a glass of wine, via ZOOM, Skype, Messenger and more, for free.
For those of you who welcome the challenge of creating and really going outside the box, there are many ideas for something made with your own two hands. They can be economical and some, not. There are crafty ideas galore whether you knit, crochet or sew mum something; and indeed there are a lot of sewing ideas. If you’re a good seamstress, you could make mum something to wear, and there are some pretty cool ideas on YouTube. It’s so easy to string a row of beads or gemstones to make a matching necklace or bracelet to go with it. The possibilities are endless for making mum something.
You could also personalise mugs, tees, create a photo album, calendar, recipe book for mum simply by uploading precious photographs via websites like Snapfish and Photobook. Why not create a funny JibJab card to go with it. In these difficult times of isolation, when it’s not possible to hold that loved one close in a bear hug because you don’t live in the same household, anything personal and from the heart will speak volumes and put a smile on their face to get them through their special day.
